Nipa Thai Restaurant London

Nipa Thai Restaurant London

Who loves authentic Thai cuisine? Yes, me too.  Nipa Thai was a wonderful surprise, such a delightful restaurant overlooking Kensington Gardens.  It just has everything, chic restaurant design, fantastic location, wonderful staff and best of all…. the most delicious Thai food. Make sure you put Nipa Thai Restaurant London on your list of restaurants to visit.

The award-winning restaurant Nipa Thai is situated in Royal Lancaster Hotel London. The Royal Lancaster itself was another wonderful surprise following a £80 million redesign.  A cool and stylish space with a laid back vibe, I really was impressed.

Providing unrivalled views across the gardens, the restaurant is renowned as one of London’s best Thai restaurants using original Thai ingredients.  Nipa Thai has received the prestigious “Thai Select” award from the Thai Government for its authentic cuisine. This is presented to Thai restaurants proven to have achieved the highest standards of quality. The restaurant features a teak panelled interior with traditional Thai furnishings, and ornate decorations crafted in Thailand. The authentic décor complements the cuisine which is served by Thai staff, you will be transported to Thailand for the evening!

The restaurant delivers outstanding traditional cuisine that combines hot spices with mild and sweet flavours, offering a mix of dishes from Thailand’s central region. Each of the dishes is prepared by the Head Chef Sanguan Parr and her dedicated team according to traditional recipes.

The à la carte menu at Nipa includes starters such as Por Pia Tod (Crisp spring rolls containing glass noodles, cabbage and crab meat with a sweet plum sauce). Main course dishes include specialities such as Pla Nueng Ma Nao (Steamed seabass in a garlic, lemongrass, lime leaf and chilli broth). There is also a selection of Thai salads, pan-fried dishes and red or green Thai curries.  Enjoy Thai desserts, such as Caramel Lychees (Caramel delice with a crunchy lychee centre, chilli and pineapple Carpaccio with salted caramel ice cream).

SURIYAN MENU:

We enjoyed a menu for two people called Suriyan.  I’m feeling hungry just thinking about it!We started with Ruam Mitre which is a selection of Chef’s Thai  Starters.  Each dish had its own sauce designed to enhance the flavours.

A Prawn and Coconut soup called Tom Kha Koong followed the starter dishes.  I love a sharing menu, it makes dinner more fun and interesting as we discuss and taste the dishes.  Thai wine was a revelation.  Despite many trips to Thailand I don’t think we have ever ordered Thai wine but it was a light and delicate white Pinot Grigio and a perfect accompaniment to the meal. Very reasonably priced too!

The Suriyan menu  costs £35 each, which is great value for money with al of these dishes. Then a main course of chicken Kaeng Massaman Kai and Sea Bass Phad Kea followed, served with rice and delicious vegetables.  Coconut ice cream and Tea or coffee were also included in the price.  We will definitely be back! This is the most delicious authentic Thai food I have eaten outside Thailand.

Great Value for Money Menus:

Pre – theatre Nok Khamin Menu
The Nok Khamin menu is served from 5pm to 6.30pm and priced at £23 per person. With London’s West End and the Royal Albert Hall just a short distance from the hotel, the menu is the perfect pre-theatre or early bird dinner.
The Early Bird menu is served daily and includes a starter, main and glass of house wine or Singha beer.
The menu features Thai favourites such as Thai Green Curry (Kaeng Kiew Warn Puk), Spring Rolls with Glass Noodles (Por Pia Thod), and Thai Chicken Satay.

Sanguan Parr, Head Chef:

Head Chef Sanguan Parr was born in Thailand and moved to the UK in 1984. She has been working in Nipa for 20 years since starting out as an Administrative Chef, and later working as Sous Chef. The efficient service is overseen by Nipa Thai’s Restaurant Manager, Kaseam Jongpitakrat.  All of the staff were a delight, so welcoming to everyone.

An à la carte dinner would cost approximately £40 for a three course meal with wine.
