Who Owns Equinox Resort?

By Alice Nichols

Equinox Resort is one of the most luxurious destinations in the US, located in Manchester Village, Vermont. The resort has an interesting history dating back to the American Revolution and has undergone several ownership changes over the years. Today, Equinox Resort is owned by Marriott International, one of the leading hotel chains in the world.

The Early Days of Equinox Resort

The Equinox Resort was originally built in 1769 as a tavern and served as a meeting place for local residents during the American Revolution. In 1853, the property was purchased by Abraham Lincoln’s son and transformed into a luxury hotel.

The hotel quickly became popular among wealthy travelers and played host to several prominent figures such as Mary Todd Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant.

Ownership Changes Over Time

Over the years, Equinox Resort changed hands several times, with each owner contributing to its growth and success. In 1968, Equinox was sold to Sheraton Hotels and Resorts and underwent major renovations to modernize its facilities.

In 1991, RockResorts International acquired Equinox Resort from Sheraton and invested heavily in upgrading its amenities. The resort underwent another round of renovations that included adding a spa, golf course, tennis courts, and more guest rooms.

Equinox Resort Joins Marriott International

In 2010, Marriott International acquired RockResorts International along with its portfolio of luxury hotels and resorts around the world. This acquisition included Equinox Resort as well.

Today, under Marriott’s ownership, Equinox Resort continues to offer world-class amenities such as a full-service spa, championship golf course designed by Rees Jones, multiple dining options featuring farm-to-table cuisine sourced from local farms & producers in Vermont.

Conclusion

While Equinox Resort has had several owners over the years, it has always maintained its reputation as a premier luxury destination. Today, under Marriott International’s ownership, Equinox continues to provide top-notch amenities and services to its guests, cementing its place as one of the finest resorts in Vermont and the US.
