Where Was Christmas Vacation Filmed in Colorado?

Breckenridge

One of the most recognizable scenes in the movie is when Clark Griswold (played by Chevy Chase) sleds down a hill and crashes into a Walmart-like store. This scene was filmed in Breckenridge, Colorado at a building that used to be a department store called Gem Village.

Georgetown

Another memorable scene from Christmas Vacation is when Clark and his family pick out their Christmas tree. This scene was filmed in Georgetown, Colorado at a tree farm called Frosty’s Forest. The farm is still open today and offers visitors the chance to cut down their own Christmas tree.

Vail

The scene where Clark goes on a wild sled ride with his son Russ was filmed in Vail, Colorado. The exact location was on Vail’s Adventure Ridge, which offers snowmobiling and tubing adventures for visitors.

Breckenridge (again)

The outside of the Griswold family’s vacation home was actually shot in Breckenridge, Colorado as well. The house itself is located on 1804 Guffey Road and still stands today as a private residence.

Silverthorne

The interior shots of the Griswold family’s vacation home were filmed at a soundstage in California. However, the exterior shots of the home were also filmed in Colorado – this time in Silverthorne. The house used for these shots is located at 181 Chaparral Road and can be seen from I-70.
