By Robert Palmer

London Fletcher is a former American football linebacker who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 16 seasons. He is widely regarded as one of the most durable players in NFL history, having never missed a single game throughout his career.

The Early Years
Born on May 19, 1975, in Cleveland, Ohio, Fletcher attended Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School where he played football and basketball. He was an all-state selection in both sports and led his high school football team to back-to-back state championships.

After high school, Fletcher enrolled at John Carroll University where he continued to play football. In his four years at John Carroll, he was a three-time All-American selection and recorded 202 tackles, six interceptions, and three sacks.

Starting His NFL Career
Despite his impressive college career, Fletcher went undrafted in the 1998 NFL Draft. However, he signed with the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent and made their final roster.

In his first season with the Rams, Fletcher primarily played on special teams but eventually worked his way into the starting lineup as a linebacker for the team’s Super Bowl XXXIV-winning season.

The Ironman
Throughout his career with the Rams, Buffalo Bills, and Washington Redskins (where he spent the majority of his career), Fletcher was known for his toughness and consistency on the field. He played all 16 regular-season games for each of his final 15 seasons in the NFL.

In total, Fletcher played in 256 consecutive regular-season games – the most ever by a defensive player and second-most overall behind only Brett Favre’s 297 consecutive games played.

Retirement
Fletcher retired after the 2013 season at age 38 following an exceptional career that included four Pro Bowl selections and one First-Team All-Pro selection.

In addition to never missing a game due to injury, Fletcher was also known for his leadership and intelligence on the field. He was a team captain for much of his career and was respected by his teammates and opponents alike.

Conclusion
In conclusion, London Fletcher’s consecutive games played streak is a testament to his durability, work ethic, and love for the game of football. He is a true ironman who played the game at a high level for 16 seasons without ever missing a single game. It’s safe to say that Fletcher will always be remembered as one of the toughest players in NFL history.
