Where Is the Cruise Ship Zaandam Today?

By Alice Nichols

The MS Zaandam is a cruise ship, owned by Holland America Line, that is currently located in the port of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Zaandam was built in 1998 and has traveled the world since then.

It is one of the largest cruise ships in the world with a capacity of 1,848 passengers and 794 crew members.

On March 25th 2020, the Zaandam left San Antonio, Chile on a South American cruise and has been stuck in port ever since. The ship had originally planned to visit several different ports down the west coast of South America as well as Panama and Costa Rica before returning to San Antonio on April 19th.

Unfortunately, due to the outbreak of Covid-19, many ports closed their ports to cruise ships and the Zaandam was unable to make its planned stops.

After being stuck in port for several weeks and running low on food supplies and medical care, Holland America Line decided it was best to move the ship closer to their home port in Seattle so they could provide better support for the passengers and crew onboard. On April 2nd 2020, they began making arrangements for a tugboat to tow the ship from its current location in Buenos Aires to Panama City where it would be met by another tugboat that would take it through the canal towards Seattle.

At this time, The Zaandam is still located in Buenos Aires waiting for clearance from Panama City before it can continue on its journey towards Seattle. The company has stated that all passengers will remain onboard during this time so they can receive any necessary medical attention while still maintaining social distancing guidelines.

The Zaandam’s journey has been incredibly difficult for everyone involved but hopefully with some luck it will soon be able to make its way safely back home where it can be fully restocked with food supplies and medical attention. Until then, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed that everyone onboard stays safe during this difficult time.

Conclusion: Where Is The Cruise Ship Zaandam Today? Currently, The MS Zaandam is waiting for clearance from Panama City before it can continue its journey towards Seattle. Everyone onboard remains safe while receiving any necessary medical attention while still maintaining social distancing guidelines.
