Hiking and backpacking are two great ways to explore the outdoors. But what should you wear?
Well, there are certain items that are essential for a comfortable, safe and successful trip. Here’s a list of the most important pieces of clothing you should consider when gearing up for your next outdoor adventure.
Footwear
Comfortable and supportive shoes are a must. Make sure to choose something that is waterproof and provides good traction on slippery surfaces. Boots may be necessary for some trails, but for most day hikes, a lightweight pair of shoes with plenty of cushioning should do the trick.
Socks
Wool or synthetic material hiking socks will keep your feet warm and dry while out on the trail. Make sure to pick socks that fit well and don’t bunch up in your shoes.
Shirt
Long sleeved shirts made from quick-drying materials like polyester or nylon are ideal for hiking. They will protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays as well as keep you warm during cooler weather.
Pants
Lightweight pants with lots of pockets are great for hiking and backpacking trips. Choose pants that have plenty of stretch so you can move freely without feeling restricted. If possible, look for pants that offer some water resistance too.
Jackets
This is essential in colder climates or during wet weather conditions. A lightweight, breathable jacket with some insulation will keep you warm while still allowing your body heat to escape so you don’t overheat.
