Cruise ships are large vessels that are used for leisurely vacations, often times to exotic locations such as the Caribbean or the Mediterranean. Cruise ships offer a variety of amenities and services to make your vacation enjoyable, and the staff on board is a huge part of that. But what exactly are cruise ship staff called?

The most common type of crew member on a cruise ship is called an “Officer”. Officers are responsible for the safety and efficient operation of the entire vessel.

Officers on a cruise ship typically hold ranks such as Captain, Chief Officer, Second Officer, Third Officer, Chief Engineer, Second Engineer and Third Engineer.

In addition to officers, there are several other categories of crew members on a cruise ship. These include pursers (also known as guest services staff), housekeeping staff (responsible for maintaining cleanliness throughout the vessel), food service staff (responsible for preparing meals and snacks), deckhands (responsible for repairs and maintenance), entertainment staff (responsible for organizing activities and providing entertainment) and medical staff (responsible for providing medical care).
