By Anna Duncan

If you’re a fan of the National Lampoon’s Vacation movies, you may have wondered where the Griswold family went during their European vacation. In the film “European Vacation,” Clark Griswold (played by Chevy Chase) wins a trip to Europe for his family after appearing on a game show. Let’s take a closer look at where the Griswolds went and what they did.

The Griswold Itinerary

The Griswolds’ first stop on their European tour was in London, England. They visited popular tourist spots like Buckingham Palace and Piccadilly Circus. While in London, they also had some mishaps, such as accidentally leaving their youngest son Rusty (played by Jason Lively) at the airport.

After London, the Griswolds traveled to Paris, France. They visited famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral. However, they also had some troubles with the French language and driving on unfamiliar roads.

Germany

Next, the family made their way to Germany. Here they experienced more culture shock when they accidentally stumbled into a nudist campsite. They also visited a beer garden and participated in a game of “Pig in a Poke.”

Italy

In Italy, the Griswolds visited Rome and were awestruck by ancient ruins such as the Colosseum and the Forum. They also visited Vatican City and witnessed Pope John Paul II speaking from his balcony.

Austria

The final stop on their trip was Austria where they participated in an Alpine roller coaster ride and stayed at an inn run by an elderly couple who turned out to be former Nazis.

Conclusion

In conclusion, while it may have been challenging for the Griswolds to navigate through Europe with a language barrier and unfamiliar customs, they managed to have some unforgettable experiences. From Buckingham Palace to the Colosseum, the Griswolds saw some of the most iconic landmarks in Europe. Despite their mishaps, their trip will undoubtedly be remembered as an adventure of a lifetime.
