What Happened to the Song of America Cruise Ship?

By Robert Palmer

The Song of America cruise ship has been a popular destination for many travelers since its launch in 2002. The 950-foot-long ship features a variety of amenities, including 17 restaurants, 12 bars, 11 lounges and clubs, and four swimming pools. The Song of America has also been featured in several movies, such as “The Proposal” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”.

Unfortunately, the ship’s popularity didn’t last forever. In 2017, the cruise line announced that it was ceasing operations due to declining passenger numbers.

This news came as a shock to many people who had enjoyed numerous cruises on the Song of America. The company cited economic conditions as the primary reason for its closure.

Since then, there have been several attempts to revive the Song of America. A group of investors purchased the ship in 2018 with plans to restore it and offer new cruises. Unfortunately, these plans fell through due to financial difficulties and lack of interest from potential passengers.

In 2020, another group proposed to purchase the ship and turn it into a floating hotel and casino. This plan was ultimately rejected by government officials due to concerns about gambling regulations.
