What Happened to Jewel Dunn River Resort?

By Anna Duncan

Jamaica is known for its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and all-inclusive resorts. One such resort that was highly popular among tourists was the Jewel Dunn River Resort.

However, in recent times, there has been a lot of buzz about the resort’s current status. Let’s take a closer look at what happened to Jewel Dunn River Resort.

The Beginning:

The Jewel Dunn River Resort was one of the most luxurious resorts in Jamaica. The 250-room property was situated on the northern coast of Jamaica and offered breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea.

The resort boasted of several amenities such as multiple swimming pools, gourmet restaurants, a spa, and a fitness center. It was also an adults-only resort which made it an ideal getaway for couples.

Change in Management:

In 2018, the Jewel Dunn River Resort underwent a change in management. The new management company took over the property from Curio Collection by Hilton and rebranded it as ‘Jewel Paradise Cove.’ With this change, there were significant upgrades made to the property to enhance guests’ overall experience.

Temporary Closure:

In March 2020, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Jewel Paradise Cove temporarily closed its doors like many other resorts worldwide. However, when it came time to reopen after several months of closure, it became clear that reopening would not be possible.

Permanent Closure:

In October 2020, it was announced that Jewel Paradise Cove would not be reopening as planned due to ongoing challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. This news came as a shock to many who had been eagerly waiting for their vacations at this beautiful resort.

The Future:

At present, there are no plans for reopening Jewel Dunn River Resort under its original name or ownership. However, there are other properties managed by the same company in Jamaica, such as Jewel Grande Montego Bay Resort & Spa and Jewel Runaway Bay Beach Resort & Waterpark, which offer similar amenities and luxurious experiences.

Conclusion:

Jewel Dunn River Resort was undoubtedly one of the most popular resorts in Jamaica, offering its guests a luxurious getaway. However, with the change in management and the pandemic’s impact, it has undergone a significant transformation. While it is unfortunate that the resort will not be reopening under its original name or ownership, there are still several other properties managed by the same company that offer a similar experience.
