Are Cruise Ship Buffets Open?

By Robert Palmer

On board cruise ships, buffets are a popular component of the all-inclusive dining options. But, with the COVID-19 pandemic, are these buffets still open?

Cruise lines are taking precautions to make sure they can serve their customers while still protecting the safety of their guests and crew. Many have implemented new rules and regulations, including limited capacity in restaurants and buffets, social distancing between tables, and additional sanitation protocols.

The good news is that cruise ship buffets are still open in many cases, but with some modifications to ensure safety. Buffet lines may be limited to one-way traffic flow or closed altogether.

Additionally, food may be pre-plated or served by a restaurant staff member instead of allowing guests to serve themselves from a buffet line.

Some cruise lines are also offering additional sanitization options for guests such as hand sanitizer stations and disposable gloves for guests to use when serving themselves at the buffet line. Furthermore, many cruise lines have also implemented contactless payment methods for all onboard purchases including buffet meals.

Conclusion:

Cruise ship buffets are still open in many cases but with some modifications to ensure safety. Guests should expect new protocols such as one-way traffic flow through buffet lines and pre-plated meals served by staff members. Additionally, contactless payment methods and extra sanitation options will likely be available onboard.
