The Early Days of Friendship

Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton have been friends since their teenage years. They first met at a party when they were both 2 years old, as Nicole is the daughter of singer Lionel Richie and Paris is the great-granddaughter of hotel magnate Conrad Hilton.

The Simple Life

Their friendship was further cemented when they starred in the reality show “The Simple Life” from 2003 to 2007. The show followed them as they lived with various families and performed odd jobs.

  • Entertainment Weekly called it “mindless entertainment”
  • Variety praised their “comic timing”
  • The New York Times called it a “guilty pleasure”

The Fallout

However, their friendship hit a rough patch in 2005 when Nicole was arrested for driving under the influence. Paris made comments on a radio show that seemed to suggest she was happy about Nicole’s legal troubles.

Nicole later said in an interview with Ryan Seacrest, “Paris knows what she did and that’s all I’m ever going to say about it.”
