Can Nagaland Become an Important Tourist Destination?

Nagaland is a state in Northeast India and is home to a variety of beautiful landscapes, culture, and natural resources. It has been referred to as the “Switzerland of the East” due to its stunning scenery.

The state is bordered by Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar. Nagaland has a great potential to become an important tourist destination in India.

Nagaland offers a range of activities for tourists. Trekking, mountaineering, rafting, bird watching and angling are some popular activities that visitors can indulge in.

The state also boasts of several wildlife sanctuaries such as the Ntangki National Park and the Dzukou Valley Wildlife Sanctuary where one can spot rare species of animals like the Red Panda. Nagaland is also known for its numerous tribes; each tribe having its own distinct culture and language which adds to the charm of the place.

Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage also makes it an attractive tourist destination. There are several festivals celebrated throughout the year such as Hornbill Festival, which celebrates Naga culture and traditions through art, music, dance and cuisine. Apart from this many religious festivals such as Christmas and Easter are celebrated with much enthusiasm by all its citizens regardless of their faith or religion.

The state’s natural beauty can be seen in the many waterfalls such as Dzuleke Falls near Kohima or Japfu Peak near Dimapur which offer captivating views. The many lakes such as Touphema Lake near Kohima offer boating experiences along with mesmerizing views.

Nagaland has tremendous potential to become an important tourist destination in India owing to its diverse landscape, rich cultural heritage and plethora of activities for tourists to experience. With proper infrastructure development initiatives taken by both private players as well as government organizations it can become one of India’s most sought after tourism destinations.
