Can US Citizens Travel to Prague?

By Anna Duncan

Are you a US citizen planning a trip to Prague? With its stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant culture, Prague is a popular tourist destination in Europe.

However, before you pack your bags and book your flight, it’s important to know whether or not US citizens can travel to Prague. Let’s take a look at the requirements and restrictions in place.

Travel Restrictions due to COVID-19

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many countries imposing travel restrictions and entry requirements. The Czech Republic, where Prague is located, is no exception. As of August 2021, the Czech Republic allows US citizens to enter for non-essential reasons such as tourism only if they meet certain conditions.

Vaccination Requirements

To enter the Czech Republic as a tourist from the United States, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with an EMA-approved vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson). You must be able to provide proof of vaccination in English or Czech. If you are not fully vaccinated or haven’t received an EMA-approved vaccine – except for children under 12 years old who do not have to be vaccinated – you will not be allowed entry into the country.

Testing Requirements

In addition to vaccination requirements for tourists from the United States traveling to the Czech Republic, travelers must also provide proof of a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours before arrival. Alternatively, travelers may provide proof of a negative antigen test result taken within 48 hours before arrival.

Other Travel Requirements

Aside from COVID-19 related requirements and restrictions, there are other travel requirements that US citizens must meet when traveling to Prague:

Passport Validity

Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date from the Czech Republic.

Visa Requirements

US citizens can travel to the Czech Republic for up to 90 days without a visa. If you plan on staying longer than 90 days, you will need to apply for a long-term visa or residency permit.

Conclusion

In summary, US citizens can travel to Prague for tourism purposes as long as they meet the COVID-19 related requirements and other travel requirements. It’s important to stay informed about any updates or changes regarding travel restrictions due to the ongoing pandemic. With proper planning and preparation, you can enjoy all that Prague has to offer.
