Can You Bring Liquids on a Cruise Ship?

By Robert Palmer

Bringing liquids on a cruise ship has always been a difficult subject for many travelers. With the ever-increasing security regulations, it’s no surprise that bringing liquids on board can be a stressful experience. So, can you bring liquids on a cruise ship?

The answer is yes, but with restrictions. According to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), passengers are allowed to bring up to two liters of unopened, commercially-sealed non-alcoholic beverages per person onboard.

This includes soft drinks, juices, and other non-alcoholic beverages. Additionally, passengers are allowed to bring two 750ml bottles of wine or Champagne per person in their carry-on luggage.

Alcohol Rules
When it comes to alcoholic beverages, CLIA has very strict rules regarding what is and isn’t allowed onboard. Passengers are not allowed to bring any hard alcohol (such as vodka) onboard with them.

Additionally, they cannot bring any beer or wine that has not been purchased through the cruise line’s onboard store or from an approved outside vendor. All drinks must be in their original containers and must not exceed 750ml in size. Any excessive amounts of alcohol will be confiscated at boarding and disposed of by the ship’s crew.

What About Other Liquids?
In addition to alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, passengers are also allowed to bring toiletries such as shampoo, lotion, and sunscreen onboard with them in limited amounts (3oz or less). These items must be placed in clear quart-sized plastic bags for easy inspection at boarding and should not exceed one bag per person. Any excessive items will be confiscated and disposed of by the crew prior to boarding.

Conclusion:

To sum up, yes you can bring some liquids on board a cruise ship; however there are certain restrictions that you should keep in mind when packing your luggage for your cruise vacation. Non-alcoholic beverages are allowed in limited amounts while alcoholic beverages must be purchased through approved vendors prior to boarding the ship. Additionally, toiletries such as shampoo and sunscreen must also follow certain regulations when being packed into carry-on bags prior to boarding the ship.
