Can You Smoke on a Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship?

By Michael Ferguson

Smoking on Royal Caribbean cruise ships is restricted to designated areas and not allowed in the cabins or any other public areas. Most ships have designated outdoor smoking areas for the convenience of their guests.

These outdoor smoking areas are located away from doorways, dining areas, elevators and children’s play areas, so that smoke does not disturb other guests. However, it is important to note that smoking is still prohibited in all indoor public spaces, including the casino and theatre.

Additionally, while smoking is allowed on balconies in certain cabin categories on Royal Caribbean ships, it should be noted that cigars and hookahs are never allowed. Guests should also be aware that if they do smoke on a balcony that the smoke may drift into other balconies near theirs.

Electronic Cigarettes (Vaping)

Royal Caribbean enforces a strict no vaping policy. Electronic cigarettes are not permitted anywhere on board. This includes use in staterooms and on balconies.

Cigar Lounges

The majority of Royal Caribbean cruise ships have designated cigar lounges for those who wish to enjoy a cigar in an enclosed environment. Guests are required to comply with all applicable laws regarding tobacco use and must be at least 18 years old to purchase cigars from the onboard shops.

Cigarette Ashtrays

Cigarette ashtrays are provided throughout the ship in designated outdoor smoking areas. Guests should always properly dispose of cigarettes when finished using them.

Conclusion

: Smoking is only permitted in select outdoor locations aboard Royal Caribbean cruise ships while electronic cigarettes (vaping) are strictly prohibited anywhere onboard. Cigar lounges can be found on most vessels, however guests must adhere to all applicable laws regarding tobacco use while aboard. Cigarette ashtrays are also provided throughout the ship for proper disposal of cigarettes once finished using them.
