Can You Take a Cruise Ship to Jerusalem?

By Alice Nichols

Despite the fact that there is no direct cruise ship route to Jerusalem, it is still possible to reach the city by taking a cruise.

Cruise ships typically offer trips to various ports of call in the Mediterranean, including ports in countries such as Greece, Italy, and Turkey. By taking a cruise to one of these destinations, travelers can then continue on to Jerusalem by other means of transportation.

Cruise ships often make stops at Haifa, Israel’s third-largest city and an important port of entry. Located only 90 miles from Jerusalem, Haifa provides an ideal starting point for those looking to take a cruise and then journey on to the Holy City. Once in Haifa, travelers can continue their journey by taking a bus or train through the scenic Judean Mountains.

Alternatively, travelers can disembark from their cruise ship in Athens or Istanbul and make their way overland to Jerusalem. While there is no direct route from either of these cities to Jerusalem, several airlines offer connecting flights that make it possible for passengers to fly from Athens or Istanbul directly into Tel Aviv –Israel’s largest airport and just under 50 miles away from the city center.

Conclusion:

Although there are no direct cruises available from major ports directly into Jerusalem, visitors can easily reach the destination by taking a cruise ship and then continuing their journey by other means of transportation. With its close proximity to Haifa and other major cities such as Athens and Istanbul, getting to Jerusalem via cruise is an attainable goal for anyone looking for an unforgettable experience.
