Does Dubai Have a Underwater Hotel?

By Michael Ferguson

Dubai, the city of superlatives, is known for its opulence and extravagance. The city boasts of some of the most luxurious hotels and resorts in the world.

One of the most unique and innovative ideas that have been conceptualized in Dubai is the idea of an underwater hotel. But does Dubai really have an underwater hotel? Let’s find out.

What is an Underwater Hotel?

An underwater hotel is a type of hotel that is situated fully or partially underwater. These hotels provide guests with a unique experience of staying under the sea while enjoying all modern amenities. These hotels are built using advanced technology and are designed to be environmentally friendly.

Dubai’s Underwater Hotel – The Water Discus Hotel

Dubai has indeed taken up the challenge of building an underwater hotel. The Water Discus Hotel, designed by Deep Ocean Technology, was planned to be built off the coast of Dubai in 2012. The project was supposed to include 21 underwater rooms, each with a private balcony offering a breathtaking view of marine life.

The Features

The Water Discus Hotel was planned to be a two-part structure consisting of an above-water disc-shaped building and an underwater disc that would be submerged at a depth of around 10 meters below sea level. The above-water building would contain facilities such as restaurants, a spa, and reception areas while the lower level would house guest rooms with large windows for viewing marine life.

The Current Status

Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen circumstances, the project had to be put on hold indefinitely. Despite this setback, Dubai continues to remain at the forefront of innovation when it comes to tourism and hospitality.

Conclusion

Although Dubai’s water discus hotel project has been delayed indefinitely, it remains one of the most fascinating ideas ever conceived in hospitality. The future of underwater hotels is bright, and it’s only a matter of time before Dubai comes up with another groundbreaking project that will cement its position as the leader in innovative tourism and hospitality.
