Does the Cat Live in Christmas Vacation?

By Anna Duncan

Have you ever wondered if the cat in Christmas Vacation actually survived? It’s a question that has been debated among fans of the movie for years. Let’s take a closer look at the evidence and see if we can determine whether or not the cat made it out alive.

First, let’s consider the scene in question. Clark Griswold, played by Chevy Chase, is trying to get his family into the holiday spirit by putting up Christmas lights outside their home.

In the midst of all the chaos, their cat named “Snots” gets electrocuted and falls from the roof into a tree. The family tries to dislodge him from the tree but ultimately fails and he disappears.

Many viewers assume that Snots didn’t survive this ordeal. However, there are a few clues that suggest he may have made it out okay.

For starters, we never actually see Snots’ lifeless body after he falls from the tree. While we do hear a loud crash when he hits the ground, it’s possible that he simply ran away or was able to recover from his injuries.

Another piece of evidence supporting Snots’ survival is a brief shot towards the end of the movie where Clark is seen holding a wrapped present labeled “CAT” as they all sing “Deck The Halls”. While this could just be a humorous nod to Snots’ fate, it could also be an indication that he made it through unscathed.

Of course, there are also arguments against Snots making it through his fall. For example, when Clark is stuck in his attic with no escape during Christmas Day with everyone else outside trying to have fun (as his boss has arrived with his wife), we see an outline of what appears to be Snots etched onto one of Clark’s pieces of furniture – suggesting that perhaps he didn’t survive after all.

In conclusion, while there is no definitive answer to whether or not Snots the cat survived his fall in Christmas Vacation, there is evidence to suggest that he may have made it through. Whether you believe he lived or died, one thing is for sure – Snots’ antics will always be a memorable part of this beloved holiday classic.
