Has Madrid Got a Beach?

By Robert Palmer

If you’re planning a trip to Madrid, the question of whether or not the city has a beach is likely to come up. After all, Spain is known for its beautiful beaches and warm weather.

So, does Madrid have a beach? The short answer is no, Madrid is not located on the coast and therefore doesn’t have a beach. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy some sun and sand during your visit.

Beaches near Madrid:

While Madrid itself doesn’t have a beach, there are several options within easy reach of the city. Here are some of the top choices:

1. Valencia:

Valencia is one of the closest beach destinations to Madrid, located about 350 km away.

It’s known for its wide, sandy beaches and clear waters. Some of the most popular beaches include Playa de la Malvarrosa and Playa del Cabanyal.

2. Alicante:

Alicante is another popular coastal destination that’s easily accessible from Madrid by train or car. It boasts long stretches of sandy beaches as well as rocky coves and turquoise waters.

3. Marbella:

If you’re looking for more of a luxury beach experience, Marbella might be just what you’re after. This glamorous resort town is located on the Costa del Sol and is known for its high-end hotels and restaurants as well as its beautiful beaches.

Other options:

Of course, if you don’t want to venture too far from Madrid, there are other options available too. For example:

  • Lake Alberche: Located about 60 km west of Madrid, this man-made lake offers several different beaches where you can swim or relax in the sun.
  • Casa de Campo: This large park in Madrid itself has a lake with a beach area where you can sunbathe and swim.
  • Parque Warner Beach: If you’re traveling with kids, this water park located just outside of Madrid might be a fun option. It has several pools, slides, and even a wave pool.
