The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the tourism industry in Thailand as well as globally. The Thai government closed its borders to foreign tourists in April 2020, resulting in a sharp decline in visitor arrivals.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), international tourist arrivals dropped by 83.2% year-on-year in 2020, with only 6.7 million visitors compared to 39.8 million in 2019.

In response to the pandemic, the Thai government has implemented various measures to support the tourism industry, such as offering financial aid and tax relief to businesses and promoting domestic tourism.
