How Did the Baby Fall From Cruise Ship?

By Anna Duncan

In July of 2019, an 18-month-old toddler fell from a Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship while it was sailing off the coast of Cuba. The incident has left many people asking how a baby could have possibly fallen off a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean.

The toddler, a French girl named Chloe Wiegand, was aboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship “Freedom of the Seas” with her parents and extended family. During their stay, Chloe’s grandfather, Salvatore Anello, took her to an indoor play area near the back of the ship known as “The H20 Zone”.

The play area had several large windows overlooking the back deck of the ship, and Anello picked up Chloe and placed her on one of these windows to allow her to look out. However, what Anello did not realize is that one of these windows was actually made out of Plexiglass and not glass like all other windows on the ship.

Anello set Chloe on top of this window expecting it to hold her weight like any other window on board – but instead, it broke away from its frame and Chloe fell 11 stories into the ocean below. Tragically, she did not survive this fall.

Conclusion:

Chloe Wiegand’s tragic fall from a Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship has left many with unanswered questions about how such an incident could happen in mid-ocean. It appears that this accident was caused by a miscommunication between Salvatore Anello and Royal Caribbean staff about one specific window being made out of Plexiglass instead of glass.
