By Anna Duncan

If you’re flying into Madrid’s Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport and have a connecting flight that requires you to transfer from Terminal 4 to Terminal 1, don’t worry! The airport has various transportation options available that will make your transfer easy and efficient.

Option 1: Walking
One option is to walk from Terminal 4 to Terminal 1. Although this option is free, it is only recommended for those who are physically fit and have plenty of time.

The distance between the two terminals is approximately 2.5 kilometers, which can take up to 30 minutes to walk. If you decide to go this route, follow the signs for “Terminal 1” and make your way through the airport’s pedestrian walkways.

Option 2: Shuttle Bus
Another option is to take the free shuttle bus service provided by the airport. This service operates every day from 6:00 am to midnight and runs every few minutes between terminals. To catch the shuttle bus, follow the signs for “Shuttle Bus” in Terminal 4 and board the bus headed towards Terminal 1.

Option 3: Metro
If you prefer public transportation, you can take Line 8 of Madrid’s metro system from Terminal 4 to Nuevos Ministerios station. From there, transfer to Line 10 towards Puerta del Sur and get off at Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3 station. This option costs around €5 per person and takes approximately 35-45 minutes depending on wait times.

Option 4: Taxi or Private Transfer
Lastly, if you have a lot of luggage or prefer a more comfortable mode of transportation, you can hire a taxi or pre-book a private transfer service. Taxis are readily available outside of both terminals and typically cost around €30-40 for the 20-minute ride to Terminal 1. Private transfer services can be pre-booked online and offer a more personalized experience with a driver waiting for you upon arrival.

No matter which option you choose, make sure to give yourself enough time to navigate the airport and complete any necessary security or customs procedures before your connecting flight. With these transportation options available, transferring from Terminal 4 to Terminal 1 at Madrid’s Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport is a breeze!
