How Do You Light a Primus Backpacking Stove?

By Robert Palmer

Lighting a Primus backpacking stove is a relatively easy task that requires minimal effort. The backpacking stove is designed to be lightweight and portable, making it ideal for camping, trekking and other outdoor activities. The Primus backpacking stove consists of a fuel tank, burner, igniter and safety valve.

Before lighting your Primus stove, you should make sure that the fuel tank is filled with the appropriate fuel for your stove. Primus backpacking stoves are typically powered by either liquid or gas fuel.

In order to light your primus stove safely, you should use a match or lighter that produces an open flame. Do not use any type of aerosol spray or other flammable material as this could cause an explosion or fire hazard.

Once you have selected the correct fuel for your Primus backpacking stove and have acquired a match or lighter with an open flame, you are ready to get started lighting it up. First, press down on the safety valve located at the top of the burner to ensure that there is no pressure inside the tank before proceeding. Once the safety valve has been pressed down, turn on the burner knob and hold it down until it clicks into place indicating that it is in the ‘on’ position.

Next grab your match or lighter and hold it close to the burner nozzle where you will see a sparker located near the ignition knob. Now press down on the ignition knob and hold it down until you hear a ‘click’. This indicates that there is now sufficient pressure inside of your stove to create a flame when lit with an open flame from your match or lighter.

Finally bring your match or lighter close to the sparker at the nozzle of your burner and strike it against something hard enough to produce sparks which will ignite the gas coming out of your Primus backpacking stove creating a small flame that can be adjusted by turning up or down the control knob located at its base.

In conclusion, lighting a Primus backpacking stove is relatively easy once you understand how each component works together. All that’s needed is some patience and attention when going through each step in order to ensure safe operation of this convenient device perfect for camping and trekking trips.
