How I Spend My Summer Vacation Read Aloud?

By Michael Ferguson

Summer vacations are a time of relaxation, exploration, and fun. As a reader and a writer, I always try to make the most out of my summer break by indulging in my favorite hobby – reading.

But this summer was different. Due to the pandemic, I had to stay inside and couldn’t go out on any adventures. So instead, I decided to spend my vacation reading aloud.

Why Read Aloud?

Reading aloud has many benefits, including improving pronunciation and fluency. It also helps in building vocabulary and comprehension skills.

Reading aloud can be an engaging activity for kids as well as adults. It can help children develop their listening skills while also encouraging them to participate actively.

The Books I Read

I started with classics like “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain and “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett. These books were perfect for reading aloud because they had interesting characters and engaging storylines.

Next, I moved on to more recent books like “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” by J.K Rowling and “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. These books were a bit more challenging to read aloud due to their length and complex themes, but they were still enjoyable.

Finally, I ended my summer read-aloud journey with some non-fiction books like “Becoming” by Michelle Obama and “Educated” by Tara Westover. These books gave me a chance to learn new things while also enjoying the experience of reading aloud.

How I Did It

Reading aloud is not always easy, especially if you’re doing it for an extended period of time. Here are some tips that helped me get through:

  • Take regular breaks: Reading for long periods can strain your voice, so it’s important to take regular breaks.
  • Drink water: Staying hydrated can help keep your voice healthy and prevent it from getting tired.
  • Choose a quiet spot: Reading in a quiet place can help you focus and avoid distractions.
  • Practice: The more you read aloud, the easier it becomes. So practice regularly.

The Benefits

Reading aloud has many benefits, including:

  • Improved pronunciation and fluency
  • Enhanced vocabulary
  • Better comprehension skills
  • Strengthened listening skills for children
  • Bonding experience for families and friends

If you’re looking for a fun and engaging way to spend your summer vacation, consider reading aloud. It’s a great way to explore new books and improve your reading skills. So grab a book, find a quiet spot, and start reading!
