How I Spent My Summer Vacation in Lockdown?

By Alice Nichols

It’s been a challenging year for everyone with the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdowns. With travel restrictions in place, I had to change my plans for a summer vacation.

Instead of feeling down about it, I decided to try something new and exciting. Here’s how I spent my summer vacation in lockdown!

Exploring My Own City

I realized that there were many places in my own city that I had never explored before. I made a list of all the places that I wanted to visit and started ticking them off one by one. From museums to historical monuments, I was surprised at how much there was to explore in my hometown.

Learning a New Skill

Since I had some extra time on my hands, I decided to learn a new skill. With the help of online tutorials, I learned how to cook some delicious dishes, picked up some painting skills, and even started learning a new language.

Reading Books

I’m an avid reader but with work and other commitments, reading books had taken a backseat. During the lockdown, I made it a point to read more often. From classic novels to contemporary fiction, there was no shortage of great reads.

Spending Time Outdoors

With social distancing measures in place, getting outside was still possible! From hiking trails to bike rides, spending time outdoors helped me clear my head and stay active.

Virtual Travel

Just because we couldn’t travel physically didn’t mean we couldn’t explore new places virtually! From online museum tours to virtual city walks, there were plenty of ways to experience new destinations from the comfort of my own home.

Conclusion

While this summer may have looked different than previous ones, it taught me that there are always ways to make the most out of any situation. By exploring my own city, learning new skills, reading more books, spending time outdoors, and exploring virtually, I had a fulfilling summer vacation during lockdown.
