By Alice Nichols

Madrid Airport, officially known as Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, is the main international airport in Spain. It serves as a hub for the country’s flagship carrier, Iberia Airlines, and its low-cost subsidiary, Air Europa. Madrid Airport is located northeast of the city center and is easily accessible by public transport or taxi.

How Many Terminals Are There at Madrid Airport?

Madrid Airport has four terminals: T1, T2, T3, and T4. Each terminal has its own check-in area, security control, and boarding gates. The terminals are connected by a free shuttle bus service that runs 24 hours a day.

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 is the oldest terminal at Madrid Airport and serves mostly domestic flights within Spain. It has 17 boarding gates and two levels: arrivals on the ground floor and departures on the first floor.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 is also known as the “old terminal” and used to serve international flights before Terminal 4 was opened in 2006. It has been closed since February 2019 for renovation works.

Terminal 3

Terminal 3 is connected to Terminal 2 by an underground walkway and serves mostly flights to destinations within Europe. It has nine boarding gates and two levels: arrivals on the ground floor and departures on the first floor.

Terminal 4

Terminal 4 is divided into two buildings: T4 and T4S (Satellite Terminal). It serves both domestic and international flights with a focus on long-haul destinations.

Terminal 4 is one of the largest airport terminals in the world with a surface area of over one million square meters. It has five levels: -2 for metro and train connections; -1 for arrivals; 0 for check-in and baggage drop-off; 1 for security control and access to boarding gates; and 2 for VIP lounges and restaurants.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Madrid Airport has four terminals: T1, T2 (currently closed for renovation), T3, and T4 (including T4S). Each terminal has its own characteristics and serves different types of flights. The free shuttle bus service makes it easy to move between terminals, so passengers should not worry about getting lost or missing their flight.
