By Michael Ferguson

The Norwegian Dawn is one of the most iconic cruise ships of our time. It has been a part of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet since 2002 and is still a popular choice for passengers looking for a luxurious cruise experience. But how old is the Norwegian Dawn?

The Norwegian Dawn was built in 2002 by Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. It was the first ship to be built for the Norwegian Cruise Line’s new Breakaway Plus Class, and set sail for its inaugural voyage in April of that year. Since then, it has become an integral part of the NCL fleet, offering passengers an amazing array of onboard amenities and activities.

In terms of size and capacity, the Norwegian Dawn can accommodate up to 2,460 passengers and 1,072 crew members. It measures 965 feet long and 118 feet wide.

It also features 14 decks with seven outdoor pools, four whirlpools, an outdoor movie screen, a multitude of bars and lounges, multiple restaurants and eateries, a casino, an arcade, a spa and salon, as well as other onboard facilities such as a library and gym.

The ship has undergone several refurbishments over its lifetime to keep up with modern trends in cruise ship design. In 2006 it underwent its first major renovation which saw upgrades made to its cabins as well as the introduction of several new restaurants and bars. In 2012 it underwent another major upgrade which included updated decor throughout its interior spaces as well as new facilities such as an outdoor water park area with slides and splash pads for kids.

The most recent upgrade took place in 2018 when NCL added two additional decks at the top of the ship with larger cabins featuring balconies that offer stunning views out across the ocean. This upgrade also included more dining options including specialty restaurants created by celebrity chefs such as Geoffrey Zakarian.

In conclusion, the Norwegian Dawn Cruise Ship was built in 2002 by Meyer Werft Shipyard in Germany. Over its lifetime it has undergone several refurbishments to keep up with modern trends in cruise ship design including upgrades to its cabins and facilities as well as adding additional decks at the top with larger cabins featuring balconies that offer stunning views out across the ocean. This makes it one of the most iconic ships currently sailing on our oceans today.
