How Should I Dress for a Cruise Ship?

By Anna Duncan

Vacation time is here, and you’ve decided to go on a cruise ship! Before you book your ticket, it’s important to research how you should dress while on the cruise. Although there are a few days when the dress code is relaxed, there are also certain days when it is important to dress appropriately.

During the day, casual clothes such as shorts and T-shirts are acceptable. It’s also a good idea to wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be doing a lot of walking around the ship. Be sure to bring something warm for cooler evenings and if you plan on going ashore.

On most nights, passengers are expected to dress up for dinner. Men should wear collared shirts with trousers or jeans and women can opt for cocktail dresses or skirts with blouses. However, some cruises have formal nights where men should don tuxedos or suits and women should wear evening gowns.

When packing swimwear for your cruise, remember that many ships have strict rules about what can and cannot be worn in public areas such as swimming pools and Jacuzzis. Swimsuits with cut-outs or thongs are not allowed; instead opt for more modest swimwear such as board shorts and one-piece swimsuits.

Be sure to pack comfortable shoes that will suit all types of occasions while onboard the cruise ship. Daytime shoes should be flat and comfortable while evening shoes should be slightly more formal yet still comfortable enough for long walks around the ship.

Overall, when dressing for a cruise ship it is important to remember that there will be days when casual clothes are acceptable and nights when more formal attire is expected. Swimwear must also adhere to the rules set by the cruise line so make sure that you pack accordingly!
