Is a Cruise Ship Bigger Than the Titanic?

By Anna Duncan

Cruise ships have been around for quite some time, and for many years they were the go-to way to experience luxurious travel. But when it comes to size, is a cruise ship bigger than the Titanic?

The answer is that it depends on the type of cruise ship. The Titanic was 882 feet long and 92 feet wide, while modern cruise ships can range from 800-1200 feet in length. So while some modern cruise ships are larger than the Titanic, other smaller vessels are much smaller.

One of the largest ships ever built was the MS Oasis of the Seas, which measured in at 1186 feet long and 215 feet wide. It had a capacity of over 5400 passengers and 2000 crew members. In comparison, the Titanic only had a capacity of around 3500 passengers and 900 crew members.

In terms of features, modern cruise ships offer much more than what was on board the Titanic. Cruise ships offer a variety of amenities such as luxury suites, swimming pools, spas, casinos, movie theaters, gyms and more. There were no such amenities on board the Titanic – its purpose was to transport passengers from one port to another in relative comfort and luxury.

Conclusion: Although some modern cruise ships are larger than the Titanic in terms of sheer size, they also offer far more amenities than what was available on board the famous vessel. Ultimately it is up to travelers to decide which type of vessel best suits their needs when booking a vacation or trip at sea.
