Is Art of Animation a Good Resort?

By Michael Ferguson

Art of Animation is one of the most popular resorts in Walt Disney World. As a guest, you can expect to be surrounded by larger-than-life characters from classic Disney and Pixar films.

But is it worth staying at this resort? Let’s take a closer look.

Location

One of the biggest advantages of Art of Animation is its location. It’s situated right next to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

You can easily catch a bus to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and other parks as well. Plus, the resort offers complimentary transportation to and from Orlando International Airport.

Accommodations

Art of Animation is known for its themed rooms that cater to families with kids. There are four different sections: The Little Mermaid, Cars, Finding Nemo, and The Lion King. Each section has its own unique theming, complete with character art on the walls and furniture.

The Little Mermaid rooms are standard hotel rooms with two double beds or one king bed. The other sections have family suites that can accommodate up to six people. They feature a master bedroom with a queen bed, a living room with a full-size sleeper sofa and pull-down bunk beds, two bathrooms, and kitchenette.

Pros:

  • Fun theming that kids will love
  • Family suites offer plenty of space for larger groups
  • Kitchenettes in family suites allow for easy meal prep

Cons:

  • The Little Mermaid rooms are standard hotel rooms without any extra amenities
  • No balconies or patios in any of the rooms
  • The theming may not appeal to everyone

Amenities

Art of Animation has plenty of amenities to keep guests entertained during their stay. The main pool is the largest on Disney property and features a splash area for kids as well as underwater speakers that play music from Disney films. There are also three smaller pools located in each section of the resort.

Other amenities include a food court with various dining options, a playground, arcade, and jogging trail. The resort also offers various activities such as movies under the stars and character greetings.

Pros:

  • Large main pool with fun theming
  • Food court offers plenty of dining options
  • Activities for all ages

Cons:

  • No full-service restaurants on-site
  • No spa or fitness center
  • The resort can feel crowded during peak times

Price

Art of Animation is considered a value resort, which means it’s one of the most affordable options on Disney property. However, prices can vary depending on the time of year and room type. The Little Mermaid rooms are the cheapest option while family suites are more expensive but still relatively affordable compared to other resorts.

Pros:

  • Affordable option for families on a budget
  • No additional parking fees for guests with cars
  • Discounts available for annual passholders and members of certain organizations

Cons:

  • The theming may not justify the price for some guests who prioritize luxury amenities over fun theming.
  • No Club Level service like in other resorts
  • Rooms can feel cramped for some guests.

Verdict

Overall, Art of Animation is a great option for families with kids who want to stay on Disney property without breaking the bank. The theming is fun and immersive, and the family suites offer plenty of space for larger groups. However, if you prioritize luxury amenities over theming, you may want to consider other resorts on Disney property.
