Climate and Weather

The climate in Ecuador varies greatly depending on which region you visit. The northern part of the country is generally hot and humid with temperatures ranging from 75-90°F (24-32°C).

The southern part of the country is much cooler with temperatures ranging from 60-70°F (16-21°C). The rainy season runs from December through May, so it’s best to plan your trip accordingly if you want to avoid getting wet.

Backpackers in Ecuador have plenty of accommodation options to choose from. Hostels are plentiful and can be found in most cities, while camping is also an option if you’re looking for a more rustic experience. Hotels can be expensive but there are some more affordable options available if you look around.

Getting around Ecuador is relatively easy thanks to its well-developed public transportation system. Buses are the most common form of transport, while there are also trains and boats that connect some cities and towns. Taxis are also an option but can be expensive so it’s best to stick with buses if possible.

Ecuadorian food is delicious and varied, with dishes ranging from seafood to traditional stews and soups. There are plenty of restaurants offering cheap eats for budget travelers, as well as more upscale dining options for those wanting something special. Vegetarians will find plenty of options as well since most restaurants offer vegetarian alternatives to their dishes.
