Is Laos Open for Tourism Now?

By Anna Duncan

Are you planning a vacation to Laos? You must be wondering if the country is open for tourism amidst the ongoing pandemic.

Well, the answer is YES! Laos has opened its doors to tourists once again, with certain restrictions and guidelines in place.

COVID-19 Entry Requirements:

  • All foreign visitors must obtain a visa prior to arrival.
  • All visitors must have a COVID-19 PCR test done within 72 hours before their travel date and carry the negative test report with them.
  • Upon arrival, all visitors will undergo another COVID-19 PCR test and will have to quarantine for 14 days in a government-approved facility.

Attractions Open for Tourists:

Most of the tourist attractions in Laos are open for visitors. However, there are certain restrictions and guidelines that tourists need to follow:

  • Visitors must wear masks at all times in public places.
  • Social distancing rules must be followed strictly, with a minimum distance of 1 meter between individuals.
  • Tourists can visit temples and historic sites but need to follow strict protocols such as wearing masks, social distancing, and regular sanitization of hands.

Transportation:

  • Taxis and private cars are available for hire but only with prior reservations.
  • Buses are operating but with limited capacity to maintain social distancing norms.

Accommodation:

Most hotels and guesthouses have reopened but with strict protocols in place. Visitors need to wear masks in common areas such as lobbies and restaurants. Regular sanitization of hands is mandatory.

The Bottom Line:

Laos is welcoming tourists once again, but it’s important to follow all the guidelines strictly. The country has done well in controlling the spread of COVID-19, and we should all do our part to maintain that. So, pack your bags, follow the protocols, and enjoy your vacation in the beautiful country of Laos!
