Is Logos Hope a Cruise Ship?

By Alice Nichols

Logos Hope is one of the world’s largest floating book fairs. It is a charitable project run by GBA Ships e.V., a German charity organization, and it has been touring the world since 1970, visiting over 500 ports in nearly 80 countries. Logos Hope is staffed by volunteers from around the world and its mission is to bring knowledge, help and hope to people in hundreds of communities around the world.

Logos Hope is not a cruise ship, but it does look like one. The vessel was originally built as a ferry boat in 1976 and has since been modified to include an auditorium, lecture halls, classrooms, display areas and a library with over 5,000 books from all over the world. Logos Hope also hosts concerts, educational activities and cultural events for both adults and children.

The Logos Hope Experience

Visitors aboard Logos Hope can explore its four decks of educational materials and books about science, mathematics, health care and other topics. It also features a resource center that provides counseling services for those who need help with personal issues. Visitors can also explore displays about different cultures from around the world or attend talks about global issues.

Funding For Logos Hope

Logos Hope is funded primarily through donations from individuals and organizations. The charity organization also sells souvenirs such as postcards and mugs to raise money for their cause. They also rely on volunteer labor to run the ship; most of their crew members are unpaid volunteers who work on board for up to two years.
