Is Madrid Near Rome?

If you’re planning a trip to Europe, you might be wondering which cities are close enough to visit together. Two of the most popular European destinations are Madrid, Spain and Rome, Italy.

But how close are they really Let’s take a closer look.

Geography

Madrid is located in the center of Spain, while Rome is located in the central-western region of Italy. The distance between the two cities is approximately 1,300 kilometers (807 miles) if you travel by plane.

Transportation

The fastest way to travel between Madrid and Rome is by plane. Direct flights are available from both Madrid-Barajas Airport and Rome-Fiumicino Airport and take approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. You can also take a train from Madrid to Rome which takes about 22 hours with a few stops on the way.

Culture

Madrid has a rich cultural heritage with many museums, art galleries, and historical sites to visit such as Prado Museum, Reina Sofia Museum, Royal Palace of Madrid and many more. The city is also known for its food scene with numerous restaurants serving traditional Spanish cuisine.

Rome is famous for its ancient history with numerous landmarks such as Colosseum, Pantheon, Roman Forum and many more. Alongside historical sites it’s also famous for its modern art scene with Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea being one of the biggest museums in Italy.
