Is Nickelodeon Resort in Punta Cana Closed?

By Michael Ferguson

If you’re an avid traveler and a fan of Nickelodeon, you might be wondering if the Nickelodeon Resort in Punta Cana is still open. The answer is both yes and no, as the resort has undergone some changes in recent years. Let’s take a closer look.

The Opening of Nickelodeon Resort Punta Cana

Nickelodeon Resort Punta Cana opened its doors to the public in June 2016. The resort was a joint venture between Karisma Hotels & Resorts and Viacom International Media Networks and was the first-ever international Nickelodeon-themed resort.

The Features of the Resort

The resort was designed to cater to families with children and offered a wide range of amenities such as water parks, character meet-and-greets, kids’ clubs, and themed restaurants. The rooms were also decorated with popular Nickelodeon characters like SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer.

Temporary Closure of Nickelodeon Resort Punta Cana

In 2018, the resort faced some negative publicity when reports surfaced that several guests had fallen ill during their stay due to what appeared to be a waterborne illness. The reports led to an investigation by health officials, which ultimately concluded that the source of the illness was likely a result of poor maintenance practices.

As a result, the hotel closed its doors temporarily in August 2018 to address these issues. During this time, all reservations were canceled, and guests were offered refunds or alternative accommodations at nearby resorts.

Reopening as Karisma Hotels & Resorts Property

After undergoing extensive renovations, Nickelodeon Resort Punta Cana reopened in May 2019 under new ownership by Karisma Hotels & Resorts. However, it was no longer a Nickelodeon-branded property but rather rebranded as Sensatori Resort Punta Cana.

The Changes Made to the Resort

Under new ownership, the resort underwent significant changes, including a complete renovation of the rooms, restaurants, and public areas. The resort’s water park was also expanded and updated.

While the Nickelodeon branding and character-themed decor were removed, the resort still caters to families with children and offers many of the same amenities that were available before.

Conclusion

In summary, Nickelodeon Resort Punta Cana did close temporarily in 2018 due to health concerns but reopened in 2019 as Sensatori Resort Punta Cana under new ownership. While it is no longer a Nickelodeon-branded property, it still offers many family-friendly amenities.
