Is Slough Considered Part of London?

Introduction

Slough is a town located in Berkshire, England, situated just to the west of London. It has a population of over 160,000 people and is widely known for its industrial heritage as well as being the home of the iconic Slough Trading Estate.

Geographical Location

While Slough is a large town located close to London, it is not technically considered part of the city. The town sits approximately 22 miles west of London’s city center. On the other hand, Greater London is an administrative region that encompasses several counties including those on its borders such as Surrey, Kent, Essex and Hertfordshire among others.

Despite not being officially part of Greater London, Slough benefits from excellent transport links to both the capital city and other nearby towns. Slough Station provides direct trains into central London with journey times taking around 20 minutes on average. Additionally, Heathrow Airport – one of the busiest airports in Europe – is situated just a few miles away from Slough making it an ideal location for those who frequently travel by air.

Economic Importance

Slough has long been an important economic hub for the south-east region with many large companies having their headquarters or major operations based here. The Slough Trading Estate is one of the largest industrial estates in single private ownership in Europe, and is home to over 600 businesses. It employs approximately 20,000 people and is a significant contributor to the local economy.
