Is the Biggest Cruise Ship Bigger Than the Titanic?

By Michael Ferguson

The debate of whether the biggest cruise ship is bigger than the Titanic has been ongoing for years. While some argue that the modern vessels are much larger in size, others point out that the Titanic was, and still is, a marvel of engineering.

The largest cruise ship currently in operation is Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas. It measures a length of 1,188 feet and a width of 218 feet.

It has 18 decks and 2,759 cabins with capacity for over 6,680 passengers. Onboard amenities include multiple restaurants and bars, theaters, an ice skating rink, two surf simulators, spa facilities, and more.

The Titanic was 882 feet long and 92 feet wide. The maximum number of passengers it could accommodate was 3,547. Its onboard features included three swimming pools (one for first class passengers only), a gymnasium, a Turkish bath, libraries and smoking rooms.

From size alone, it is clear that the biggest cruise ships today are much larger than the Titanic ever was. However if we look at other aspects such as luxury amenities and passenger capacity then we can see why some people still prefer to travel on board the legendary vessel.

Conclusion: It is undeniable that the biggest cruise ships today are much larger than the Titanic ever was in terms of size; however when considering other factors such as luxury amenities and passenger capacity then it becomes clear why so many people still prefer to travel on board ships like the Titanic.
