Is There a Cruise Ship as Big as the Titanic?

By Alice Nichols

The Titanic is one of the most iconic ships of all time. It was the largest passenger ship in the world when it launched in 1912, and its tragic sinking only cemented its place as a legendary vessel.

But is there a cruise ship out there that’s as big as the Titanic?

The answer is, not quite. The Titanic was over 882 feet long and weighed 52,310 tons.

The longest cruise ship in the world currently is Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas, which measures in at 1,188 feet long and weighs 228,089 tons. So while it’s not quite as long as the Titanic, it is much heavier and more luxurious than what was available to passengers on board the Titanic.

The Symphony of the Seas boasts seven distinct neighborhoods with plenty of activities for its guests. There are multiple restaurants, entertainment venues such as an aqua theater and ice rink, a casino and more. Guests can also enjoy amenities such as two-story suites with balconies and private elevators, robotic bartenders at Bionic Bar, a zip line across nine decks and a mini golf course.

But if you’re looking for something closer to what passengers experienced on board the Titanic then take a look at Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2. This ship is just under 1000 feet long (964) but has many similarities to its predecessor from over 100 years ago. There are multiple dining options from casual to fine dining experiences like The Britannia Restaurant which serves British classics like steak and kidney pie or fish & chips.

Conclusion:

While no cruise ship is exactly like what passengers experienced on board the Titanic over 100 years ago due to advances in technology and modern amenities, there are still some ships that are close in size or offer similar experiences such as Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2 or Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas.
