Is There a Disney Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii?

If you’re planning a trip to Hawaii, you may be wondering if there is a Disney Resort on the Big Island. The answer is no, there is not currently a Disney Resort located on the Big Island of Hawaii.

However, Disney fans need not fret! There are still plenty of Disney-related activities and experiences to enjoy while visiting the Big Island.

The Closest Disney Resort

While there isn’t a Disney Resort on the Big Island itself, the closest one is located on Oahu. Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa is located in Ko Olina, on the western side of Oahu. It’s about a 45-minute flight from Kona International Airport on the Big Island.

Disney-Related Activities

Even though there isn’t an official Disney presence on the Big Island, there are still plenty of ways to experience some Disney magic while visiting. For example:

The animated movie Moana was set in Polynesia but was actually filmed in Hawaii. Some of the film locations were on the Big Island itself! Take a tour or explore on your own and see if you can spot any familiar sights.

Visit ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center

While not explicitly related to Disney, ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center has some fascinating ties to Polynesian culture and mythology – two things that feature heavily in many Disney films! Here you can learn about Hawaiian astronomy and view exhibits that showcase Hawaiian culture.
