Is There a Roller Coaster in London?

By Alice Nichols

Are you a thrill-seeker looking for an adrenaline-pumping ride in London? If so, you might be wondering if there’s a roller coaster in the city. Well, the answer is both yes and no.

Let’s start with the no. There isn’t currently a roller coaster located within central London. However, there are several theme parks and amusement parks located in and around the city that offer exciting roller coasters as part of their attractions.

One of the most popular theme parks in London is Thorpe Park, located just outside of the city. This park has over 30 rides and attractions, including some of the most exhilarating roller coasters in the UK. These include Stealth, which goes from 0 to 80 miles per hour in just two seconds, and The Swarm, which has riders dangling from seats that extend beyond the track.

Another popular option for thrill-seekers is Chessington World of Adventures Resort. This park has over 40 rides and attractions, including several roller coasters such as Vampire, which takes riders through a dark forest at high speeds.

Now let’s talk about the yes. While there may not be any permanent roller coasters within central London, there are occasionally pop-up installations that offer temporary thrills for visitors to enjoy.

For example, back in 2016, a pop-up roller coaster called “The Soaring Eagle” was installed at Marble Arch for a limited time. This ride took passengers up to 60 meters above ground level before sending them on a thrilling descent down a track that wound its way around nearby buildings.

So while there may not be a permanent roller coaster located within central London itself, there are plenty of options available just outside of the city or through temporary installations. Whether you’re looking for high-speed drops or looping inversions, there’s sure to be a ride that will satisfy your need for speed!
