Is There a Ski Resort in Texas?

By Michael Ferguson

If you’re a ski enthusiast, living in Texas might not seem like an ideal location for hitting the slopes. But is there a ski resort in Texas? The short answer is yes, there are a few places where Texans can enjoy skiing and snowboarding.

The Ski Resorts in Texas

  • 1. Ski Apache
  • 2.

    Mount Aggie Ski Slope

  • 3. Texas Ski Ranch

Ski Apache

Ski Apache is located near Ruidoso, New Mexico and is the closest ski resort to Texas. It’s about a 10-hour drive from most major cities in Texas, including Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.

Ski Apache boasts over 750 acres of skiable terrain with a vertical drop of 1,900 feet. The resort has 11 lifts and more than 50 runs for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels.

Mount Aggie Ski Slope

Mount Aggie Ski Slope is located in College Station on the campus of Texas A&M University. It’s not as large as Ski Apache but still offers a fun skiing experience for those who live nearby or are visiting the area. The slope has two trails with a vertical drop of about 70 feet.

Texas Ski Ranch

Texas Ski Ranch is located in New Braunfels and is primarily known for wakeboarding and water sports. However, during the winter months, they also offer snowboarding on their artificial slope made from synthetic material that mimics real snow. Although it’s not a natural mountain or hillside like the other two resorts mentioned above, it still provides an opportunity for Texans to experience skiing without having to travel far.

Conclusion

While Texas may not be known for its ski resorts, there are still a few places where Texans can enjoy skiing and snowboarding. Ski Apache is the largest and most popular resort, while Mount Aggie Ski Slope and Texas Ski Ranch offer smaller but still enjoyable experiences. So pack your bags, grab your skis or snowboard, and hit the slopes in Texas!
