Is There a Tardis in London?

By Alice Nichols

Have you ever heard of the TARDIS? If you’re a fan of the long-running British TV show Doctor Who, then you’ll know exactly what it is.

For those who aren’t familiar, the TARDIS is a time machine and spacecraft that the titular character uses to travel through time and space. But is there really a TARDIS in London?

First, let’s take a look at what the TARDIS actually looks like. It’s a blue police box that was once a common sight on the streets of London. However, the design hasn’t been used in decades and most people today wouldn’t recognize it as anything other than an antique.

Despite this, there are still a few original police boxes scattered throughout London that have been preserved for historical reasons. Some of them even bear a striking resemblance to the Doctor’s time machine.

But do any of them actually function as a TARDIS? Unfortunately, no. While it would be amazing to step inside one and travel through time and space, they are simply empty shells that serve as reminders of a bygone era.

That being said, there are plenty of Doctor Who-related attractions in London that fans can visit. The Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff features an interactive exhibit where visitors can walk through sets from the show and even come face-to-face with Daleks and Cybermen.

In London itself, there are several filming locations that fans can visit, including St. Paul’s Cathedral which appeared in “The Invasion” episode from 1968. The British Film Institute also has an extensive collection of Doctor Who episodes available for viewing.

So while there may not be an actual functioning TARDIS in London, there are still plenty of ways for fans to immerse themselves in the world of Doctor Who. Whether it’s visiting filming locations or watching classic episodes at home, there’s always an opportunity to explore this beloved sci-fi universe.

In conclusion, while there may not be a TARDIS in London, the city is still a must-visit destination for any Doctor Who fan. With its rich history and strong ties to the show, it’s the perfect place to get your fix of all things timey-wimey.
