Is Wonder of the Seas the Biggest Cruise Ship?

By Anna Duncan

The Wonder of the Seas, the latest cruise ship to join Royal Caribbean’s fleet, is certainly one of the largest ships afloat. It is a behemoth, measuring in at a whopping 1,188 feet long and weighing 227,700 tons.

This massive vessel can accommodate up to 8,860 guests and 2,200 crew members in its 18 decks. The ship boasts seven different neighborhoods for passengers to explore, each with its own distinct vibe and offerings—from an outdoor park to a waterpark and an array of restaurants, bars and entertainment venues.

The Wonder of the Seas has made waves in the world of cruising with its sheer size and grandeur. However, it is not the biggest cruise ship afloat.

That distinction belongs to Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas, which measures an impressive 1,188 feet long and weighs 228,081 tons. It can accommodate up to 6,680 passengers and 2,200 crew members. Symphony of the Seas also offers seven different neighborhoods for guests to explore as well as a host of other amenities like five pools, ten speciality restaurants and twenty-two bars and lounges.

In terms of size alone neither Wonder nor Symphony can be beat—they are both longer than four football fields put together! But when it comes to passenger capacity they both come up short compared to their sister ship Allure of the Seas which can accommodate up to 5,400 passengers.

When it comes down to it Wonder of the Seas may be large but it isn’t quite as large as Symphony of the Seas when looking at total length or passenger capacity. However that doesn’t mean that this impressive vessel isn’t worth visiting; with its array of activities and amenities there’s no doubt that guests will have plenty to do whether they’re onboard for just a few days or an extended stay.

Conclusion: Wonder of the Seas may be one of the largest cruise ships afloat but it is not the biggest; Symphony Of The Seas takes that title with its longer length and greater passenger capacity than Wonder Of The Seas.
