Should You Bring Your Laptop Backpacking?

By Michael Ferguson

Bringing a laptop on a backpacking trip is a great way to stay connected to the world and still be able to enjoy the great outdoors. While it’s not necessary, it can make life easier in some ways. Here are a few of the pros and cons of bringing a laptop backpacking.

Pros:

  • Stay connected – You can use your laptop to stay in touch with family, friends, and work while you’re away.
  • Organize your trip – You can use your laptop to keep track of where you’ve been, what you’ve done, and where you want to go next.
  • Entertainment – You can watch movies, play games, listen to music or do whatever else helps you relax after a long day outdoors.
  • Research – It’s easy to look up information while on the go with your laptop. You can find out about nearby attractions or places to eat quickly with just a few clicks.

Cons:

  • Added weight – Laptops are bulky and adding one to your already full backpack can be difficult.
  • Security risks – Laptops are expensive items that could be stolen if left unattended. You should always make sure yours is locked up securely when not in use.
  • Fragility – Laptops aren’t designed for rough terrain.

If you drop it or get caught in bad weather it could be damaged beyond repair.

In conclusion, whether or not you should bring your laptop backpacking depends on your individual needs and preferences. For some people it might be worth the extra weight and security risks while others might prefer to leave it at home. Ultimately the decision is up to you!
