Was the Movie Like Father Filmed on a Cruise Ship?

By Robert Palmer

Like Father is a Netflix original movie that tells the story of an overworked executive, Rachel (Kristen Bell), and her estranged father, Harry (Kelsey Grammer). The movie follows their journey as they take a last-minute cruise together in hopes of reconnecting and repairing their relationship.

The movie is set on board a fictional cruise ship called the S.S. Pacifica. While the ship itself does not actually exist, many viewers were surprised to learn that much of the movie was actually filmed on board a real cruise ship!

The production team chose to film Like Father on board Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas for two reasons: convenience and authenticity. Since many of the scenes in the movie take place on board a ship, it would have been difficult to recreate some settings using sets and props alone. Filming on board an actual cruise ship allowed them to use real amenities such as restaurants, pools, and cabins.

The Navigator of the Seas also provided an air of authenticity that could not be recreated with special effects or props. The production team wanted to ensure that viewers felt like they were right there with Rachel and Harry as they experienced all that life aboard a cruise ship has to offer—from scuba diving lessons to dancing in a club late into the night.

In Conclusion:

So while technically speaking, Like Father was not filmed entirely on board a cruise ship, much of it was filmed using Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas for convenience and authenticity. The production team wanted viewers to feel like they were right there with Rachel and Harry as they experienced all that life aboard a cruise ship has to offer—and filming on board an actual cruise ship helped make this possible.
