What Are Rooms Called on a Cruise Ship?

By Robert Palmer

Cruise ships can be large and luxurious, with many levels and different types of rooms. From standard to luxury, there is something to suit every budget. But what are the different types of rooms called on a cruise ship?

Inside Cabin: An inside cabin is the most basic type of room on a cruise ship. It is usually located in the ‘inner’ areas of the vessel and has no window or balcony. Inside cabins are typically the most affordable option and come in various sizes ranging from a shared bunk bedded room to a single or double occupancy room with two beds.

Oceanview Cabin: An oceanview cabin offers guests a view of the ocean through its own window or porthole. Depending on the size of the ship, these cabins can be located anywhere from mid-ship up to higher decks. They are usually more expensive than an inside cabin but less than a suite or balcony cabin.

Balcony Cabin: A balcony cabin is similar to an oceanview cabin but it also has its own private balcony with seating for two people. Typically found on higher decks, these cabins offer spectacular views from their balconies as well as more space due to their larger size than an inside or oceanview cabin.

Suites: Suites are among the most luxurious types of cabins available on a cruise ship and come in various sizes ranging from one bedroom/bathroom to three bedrooms/bathrooms with separate living areas, dining rooms, and balconies. Suites come equipped with all necessary amenities such as flat-screen TVs, mini bars, separate showers and baths, fireplaces, jacuzzis and much more.

Conclusion: Cruise ships provide numerous options for accommodation – from basic inside cabins to luxurious suites – so that guests can choose one that best fits their needs and budget. Whether you opt for an inside cabin or go all out for a suite, there’s something for everyone aboard a cruise ship when it comes to what rooms are called on board!
