What Did Disney Riviera Resort Replace?

By Robert Palmer

Disney’s Riviera Resort is a beautiful and luxurious resort located in the heart of Walt Disney World. It is one of the latest additions to the Disney Vacation Club, providing guests with stunning views, top-notch amenities, and exclusive perks. However, before we dive into what the resort has to offer, let’s take a look at what it replaced.

The Disney Riviera Resort replaced Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. This resort was one of the oldest and largest resorts on the Walt Disney World property.

It opened back in 1988 and provided guests with a tropical paradise feel. The Caribbean Beach Resort was themed around a fictional island in the Caribbean Sea, featuring colorful buildings, lush greenery, and sandy beaches.

While this resort had its charm and unique appeal, it was starting to show its age after more than three decades of operation. As newer resorts were being built on Walt Disney World property, like the Art of Animation Resort and Port Orleans French Quarter Resort, it became clear that it was time for an upgrade.

In 2017, Disney announced that they would be replacing the Caribbean Beach Resort with a brand new resort named Disney’s Riviera Resort. This new resort would be inspired by European architecture and artistry, featuring elegant design elements reminiscent of luxurious Mediterranean villas.

The Riviera Resort opened its doors in December 2019 as part of Disney Vacation Club’s portfolio of properties. The resort features deluxe studios and multi-bedroom villas that can accommodate up to 12 guests per room. Each room is beautifully designed with high-end furnishings and modern amenities like flat-screen TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi.

One of the standout features of this new resort is its rooftop restaurant called Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera. This restaurant offers panoramic views of Walt Disney World while serving up delectable dishes inspired by Italian and French cuisine.

The Riviera Resort also boasts two beautiful pools – one featuring a water play area for kids and the other offering a serene atmosphere for adults. Other amenities include a state-of-the-art fitness center, a full-service spa, and access to Disney’s Skyliner transportation system.

Overall, the Disney Riviera Resort replaced the Caribbean Beach Resort with style and grace. While the Caribbean Beach Resort will always hold a special place in many guests’ hearts, the Riviera Resort offers a fresh take on luxury and opulence that is sure to impress even the most discerning travelers.
