By Michael Ferguson

The Carnival Glory Cruise Ship, operated by Carnival Cruise Line, experienced a collision with the Carnival Legend in the Caribbean Sea on July 8, 2019. The two ships collided while they were maneuvering to dock at the Cozumel cruise port in Mexico. The incident was caught on video and caused minor damages to both ships.

The Carnival Glory was carrying 3,500 passengers and 1,100 crew members on board when the incident occurred. Fortunately, no one was injured during the collision and all passengers were safely disembarked from both vessels.

Following the incident, an investigation was conducted by both companies. After a thorough review of the evidence, it was determined that human error was to blame for the incident. The investigation revealed that one of the vessels had deviated from its intended course resulting in a collision with the other vessel.

In response to this incident, Carnival Cruise Line announced that it would be taking additional safety measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. These measures include enhancing bridge resource management training for all crew members and increasing vigilance during docking procedures.

In addition to these measures, Carnival Cruise Line has also implemented a comprehensive program to better assess navigational risks and enhance situational awareness during critical ship maneuvers such as docking operations. This program includes additional simulations of docking maneuvers as well as enhanced navigational risk assessments and enhanced monitoring systems for all vessels in their fleet.

The Carnival Glory has since been repaired and is currently sailing again with no further incidents reported since its return to service in October 2019.

Conclusion: The unfortunate incident involving the Carnival Glory cruise ship resulted from human error but fortunately no one was injured during this collision. In response to this event, Carnival Cruise Line has implemented numerous safety measures including enhanced bridge resource management training for all crew members and increased vigilance during docking procedures as well as an enhanced risk assessment program across their entire fleet of vessels. Thanks to these safety initiatives, the Carnival Glory is now back in service with no further incidents reported since its return in October 2019.
