What Happened to the Cruise Ship Vasco Da Gama?

By Anna Duncan

At the start of 2020, the cruise ship Vasco Da Gama embarked on a voyage of discovery and adventure. The ship was named after the famous explorer, Vasco da Gama, and it quickly became a popular tourist attraction.

The vessel sailed around the world, stopping at exotic ports in Europe, Africa, and South America. It even made an unprecedented journey to Antarctica.

For months, it provided a luxurious experience for its passengers. They could explore the world with onboard activities such as cooking classes and excursions ashore.

The Vasco Da Gama was also renowned for its exquisite cuisine and five-star service. It was truly a one-of-a-kind experience.

Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when news of the COVID-19 pandemic reached its passengers in April 2020. With countries closing their borders and implementing travel restrictions, the ship had no choice but to return home to Germany. After disembarking all passengers safely in Bremerhaven, the vessel has been idle ever since.

The future of the Vasco Da Gama is uncertain. Its operators have been struggling to make ends meet due to decreased bookings caused by travel restrictions. In addition, there is also concern over safety protocols such as social distancing and increased sanitation that would need to be followed on board if it were to sail again.

The cruise ship Vasco Da Gama has been idle since April 2020 when its passengers disembarked from their voyage due to travel restrictions caused by COVID-19 pandemic. As bookings have decreased drastically due to these restrictions, its operators are struggling financially which has left uncertainly surrounding its future plans for sailing again safely with updated safety protocols in place.
